One-one therapy sessions can support a wide range of needs including communication, behaviour and impulsivity difficulties, low confidence an self-esteem, food and eating related challenges, anxiety and health anxiety, risk taking behaviour and self harming, aggression and violence towards self and others, prolonged feelings of sadness or depression.
We offer individual art therapy sessions for children and YP to explore their feelings, thoughts and behaviors in a safe and confidential space in Harlow and Stanstead Abbotts. Art therapy works well with both verbal and non verbal young people. The therapist can work with a wide variety of issues to support children and young people to improve their mental health, allowing them to re engage in normal life and daily activities.
Dyadic Art Therapy is a specialist approach that involves the therapist working directly with the relationship between the parent/ caregiver and the child together in a joined up way. Sessions can be used to observe interactions during
playful art making activities. The therapist can use this information to facilitate new conversations and reflective discussions between the adult and child. Dyadic Art Therapy sessions can improve communication, resolve conflicts and strengthen your relationship.
Group therapy involves working in a small group of children and young people. The group will include the same people each week, and that group will be supported by the same therapist for a set number of weeks. Working in a group with others can support children to grow confidence and develop new perspectives on themselves. Group therapy can be a good approach to take when working with issues like anxiety, eating disorders, or for working on social skills such as improving communication, confidence and self esteem.
Art therapy and Dramatherapy can support children and young people to express and process complicated feelings that are causing them to feel overwhelming anxiety. The arts therapist will support them to feel safe, offering a range of creative resources which may provide relaxation. When children and young people use art and sensory materials alongside a trained art therapist, they can develop new perspectives, improve their self awareness and reduce anxiety symptoms. The therapist will alway do their best to make your child feel at ease whilst helping them to explore the roots of the underlying anxiety. This deeper understanding often brings relief and a sense of achievement . The young person can track their own progress using easy measuring tools.
